Highlights include the Altar of Zeus (referred to in the Book of Revelation as the “Throne of Satan”), the Temple of Trajan, and the city’s impressive ancient library, the third-largest in antiquity. Continue to the Red Basilica (St. John’s Church) before heading to Thyatira (modern Akhisar), where you’ll see remains of an early Christian basilica and Roman fragments. End the day with a panoramic tour of Smyrna (modern Izmir), another of the Seven Churches of Asia mentioned in Revelation.

HIERAPOLIS – SARDIS – PHILADELPHIA– LAODICEA

After breakfast, depart early for Sardis, once the wealthy capital of Lydia. Here you’ll visit the grand Temple of Artemis (later converted into a Byzantine Church), the restored Gymnasium, and the famous Synagogue. Continue to Philadelphia (modern Alaşehir), the only church not rebuked in Revelation, and explore the remains of its Byzantine basilica with frescoes still visible. Journey onward to Hierapolis (Pamukkale), known for its spectacular white travertine terraces and thermal springs. Visit the Martyrium of the Apostle Philip, a sacred pilgrimage site, before continuing to Laodicea, one of the most significant early Christian centers, where you’ll walk among ancient colonnaded streets and remarkable ruins.

Today you’ll explore the crown jewel of biblical Turkey: Ephesus, one of the most important and best-preserved cities of the ancient world. Walk along its marble streets and visit iconic landmarks such as the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, the Baths of Scholastica, and the Great Theatre, where Paul preached to the Ephesians. Afterward, visit the sacred House of the Virgin Mary, where she is believed to have spent her final days. Continue to the Basilica of St. John, built over the apostle’s burial site, and conclude with the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
